Add Protection With Sealants

Tooth decay is a common problem. Even with regular brushing, the enamel on your teeth is vulnerable. You can get extra protection with dental sealant.

Sealant is a thin, plastic coating, and it is applied to the chewing surfaces of the teeth. Most of the time, we use sealant on the molars to cover the deep grooves that so often cause problems. In this way, the sealant is like a protective shield to keep food out of the nooks and crannies of your teeth.

It's an effective way to keep your teeth healthy and safe. Would you benefit from sealant? Let's talk about it! Call Hartwood Dental Associates today!

Brighten Your Smith With Zoom Whitening

We all think of teeth as naturally white. However, with time and use, your teeth's natural sheen can and will fade. If your teeth are discolored or stained, you can still get your white smile back. Just ask about Zoom whitening at Hartwood Dental Associates.

Zoom is a popular bleaching process used around the world. It can lighten any discoloration of your enamel or dentin. We complete the process in the office with the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp. This activates a 25% hydrogen peroxide whitener, breaking it down to let oxygen into your teeth and bleach away stains from coffee, tea, cola, red wine, smoking, and age. Best of all, the structure of the tooth is unchanged!

Before considering Zoom, we'll talk with you and assess your dental health. We will address any oral hygiene habits and see if you're a good candidate for the procedure. In some cases, we may recommend Zoom before other cosmetic dental procedures. It can help to have your teeth whiter before getting veneers or composite bonding to ensure the best color match.

Keep in mind that whitening will not be as effective as other dental work. Existing crowns and veneers will not respond to Zoom. Moreover, sensitivity can occur for some people. The most uncomfortable element for most people is the Zoom light, which produces some heat. A few people experience minor tingling, but this dissipates after the procedure. You can use an anti-sensitivity toothpaste to help.

Zoom is safe, but some people should not use it. Zoom should not be used by children under the age of 13. We also do not recommend Zoom for pregnant or lactating women. Your personal results may vary.

The actual process is very simple. It takes about 1.5 hours to do the whitening, and we usually pair it with a normal cleaning for the best results. We'll cover your lips and gums to leave your teeth exposed. Then, we'll apply the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel before using the light to activate the process. As the stains are broken up, you can watch TV, listen to music, or just relax.

After we're done, we'll send you home with a home-use kit for touchups. This will include custom whitening trays to help you maintain your whiter teeth. We also recommend avoiding food and beverages that could stain your teeth again. Drink tea, coffee, cola, and red wine in moderation. Stop using tobacco altogether for the best results. You should also maintain good oral health habits moving forward. Whitening toothpaste can help.

Whiter teeth are within your reach! At Hartwood Dental Associates, we'll help you find the right color for your smile. Call our office to learn more about Zoom today!
